Upcoming Changes to the Massachusetts iCORI System

The Basics

Location: Massachusetts iCORI

Type: Criminal Records Search

Effective: Fall 2026

Key Takeaways

·       The Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS) announced that a new and enhanced iCORI system will launch in Fall 2026.

·       The updated iCORI system will streamline the CORI request process and provide a more secure user experience, but it does not change the underlying CORI laws or employer obligations. Candidates must still give consent and complete the required CORI acknowledgment, and employers must continue to follow all requirements for using CORI records.

What do current users need to do?

Current users should create a MyMassGov account at Mass.gov/Login before the new iCORI system launches, as existing usernames and passwords will no longer work after the transition. To keep access to your current account information, register with the same email address currently associated with your account. Registration will require multi-factor authentication and may include electronic identity verification.

How will these changes affect CORI record requests?

The updated iCORI system will simplify CORI record requests by allowing individuals to create a MyMassGov account, verify their identity electronically, and complete the CORI acknowledgment form online. Paper forms will no longer be required for individuals who successfully register and complete electronic identity verification. Those who do not register or cannot complete electronic identity verification must still submit a paper CORI acknowledgment form to the employer or prospective employer before a CORI request can be submitted.

Will there be any changes to the iCORI requirements?

The updated iCORI system will not change current CORI laws or requirements. Candidates must still provide consent and complete a CORI acknowledgment form, either electronically or on paper. Employers must also continue to follow all applicable CORI requirements, including adverse action procedures and rules for using CORI records.
