Seeking Input for Lifelong Learning

Samantha Carroll started working with Accurate in 2014 as a temp in the verifications department and became a full-time employee in 2015. She’s come a long way since then and appreciates the many opportunities and wide variety of roles she’s been able to play over the past 8 years. Her current role as an account rep is new—she started in that role in late 2021.

Doors Wide Open

In the years she has been with Accurate, Samantha says that “there was no door that I couldn’t theoretically open as long as I was willing to work for it and learn.” And that’s what’s kept her with the company.

Before coming to Accurate, Samantha worked in retail where she didn’t feel she had the same opportunities for growth that she’s had at Accurate. “I’ve always wanted to grow within the company,” she says. The ongoing opportunities to learn and grow, the people and the culture at Accurate, she says, is what drew her to the company and what keeps her there.

The changes have been significant and invigorating.

From Basement to Brand New Building

In 2014, when she started working with Accurate, Samantha recalls “there were less than 100 of us working in a basement in Arlington Heights.” The growth, she says, “has been a little bit crazy,” but she loves the opportunity to continually adapt to new situations and new challenges.

What stays the same are the things that brought her to the company in the first place—the core values, the opportunity to learn and develop and a focus on putting clients first. “That never changes. It’s just the way we go about doing our work that changes.”

Values That Resonate

Accurate’s culture is built on four core values pillars that unify the company with a common purpose, define where they’re headed, indicate what they’ll do to get there, what they believe in, and how they will behave with each other and their customers. They are:

  • Take ownership: be accountable for your actions, your team, and the company.
  • Be open: be open to new ideas.
  • Stay curious: stay curious even as you move forward.
  • Work as one: work together to create the best customer and workplace experience.

“Work as one” is the core value that resonates with her the most, Samantha says. At Accurate, she says, “you have to know so much about the different departments and the way they function to make sure you’re doing your job correctly. That’s always been really important to me—the ability to collaborate with others to achieve a common goal.”

Day in and day out, she says, the idea of “working as one” never leaves the forefront of her mind. “That’s the name of the game.” It’s a focus that not only helps clients, but aids in employees’ own personal development. “The more perspectives you get, the bigger the picture you’re going to have.”

Collaboration is key, Samantha says, and an important aspect of how she works. “I’m never content with my own understanding of something,” she says. “I’m constantly picking everybody else’s brain.” She’s not alone in this, though. “That kind of collaborative work ethic just seems to be there no matter where you go within the company. It’s really ingrained in what we’re doing here. We believe it’s important not only for everyone to have the chance to speak, but for everybody to have a chance to share their own expertise with each other.”

Samantha’s varied interests and continued search for new information extends outside of Accurate to her personal life as well.

A Continual Learner

Samantha acknowledges that, for some people, change can be challenging and even frustrating. But not for her. “The most exciting part of my time here has been being given the chance to become an expert in something new. You’re constantly being given that chance to become an expert in whatever new thing is on the horizon. And I find that really exciting.” In her free time, she says, she loves listening to podcasts, especially history podcasts.

Reflecting back on her time with Accurate, Samantha says that her curiosity and an insatiable need to learn more has really benefited her. But it’s not just about gaining information and knowledge, she says—it’s also about sharing information with others. In fact, while in school Samantha wanted to be a teacher. “So, both receiving and distributing knowledge has always been extremely important to me,” she says.

Moving Toward New Possibilities

Samantha is excited about her new role and an opportunity to work more closely with customers. “I really kind of see myself developing in a client-facing position where I’m working with clients day in and day out,” she says.

“The sky’s the limit,” Samantha says when asked about her future career aspirations. “I don’t know what that looks like. But I do know it will involve continued growth and continued opportunity. And that’s what’s important to me.”
